Replacing One Bad Habit With Another
The good news is that I've been weaning myself off of soda pop and caffeine - from a diet coke/pepsi/coke zero/pepsi one at lunch + one at dinner - to pretty much none. This is a good thing.
But in order to satisfy my sweet tooth I couldn't go straight to something as healthy as water (pizza + water = gross), so we've been buying those no calorie, no sugar flavored waters (similar to, but not exactly like the ones pictured above).
You know the ones - not the designer expensive ones made by Propel or Clearly Canadian or LaCroix - but those cheap 89 cents a bottle ones. Every supermarket sells them; they're just bottled under a different name depending on the store (I've had these exact same drinks from Albertson's, Dominick's, Fred Meyer's, Giant, Jewel, Kroeger's, Publix, Safeway and Winn Dixie).
They taste so good that there obviously must be something wrong with them. Richard brought a whole bunch home from the grocery store yesterday and I got up at 2:30 last night with craving so strong that only their sweet sugary (without actually containing any sugar!) goodness could satisfy. I think that's a problem.
Am I kidding myself that these are actually better for me than a diet coke? Am I replacing one bad chemical with another? I don't think I want to know the answer, actually. Let me enjoy my sweet raspberry, cherry and white grape nectar in peace.
On a different note: Yep, I've made some changes to the blog. Added a few more regular reads to the blogroll too.

I gave up the diet soda (Tab was my devil)years ago. And you cranberry/pomegranate juice mixed with any old club soda can make you feel quite snazzy.
I like the updated look!
I'm off pop as well (give or take a few cokes with pizza now and then) but I've found Talking Rain sparkling waters to be a good transition and are not bad for you or expensive.
PS- Are you going to e-mail me so we can hang out next week? ;-)
I have given up binge drinking, cigarettes, pot, crocs, trans fat, and sweat pants in the office - I will be damned if I give up my diet coke too.
The Snowman drinks grape flavored water, which I think is absurd.
I'll reserve judgement about you until I taste your water.
The new look is cool, and thanks for the add :D
I just drink plain old water, but I think a flavored one now and then would be nice.
I need to buy more of those Crystal Light On-the-Go packets that are perfectly sized for a water bottle. I've been drinking less diet soda, too, but replacing it with alternately water and Gatorade. Granted, I drink very little Gatorade, but it still has calories. I'd rather be skinny and full of chemicals. Also, I am vain and stupid.
pizza + water = gross --> Hilarious!
I buy those crystal light packets too. I love that flavoured water ... it's the only way I'll drink a lot of water (I'm really bad at drinking filling my quota of 8 glasses per day).
I think you're probably addicted to aspartame. And I am too ... so much so that I need to hide how much of it I actually consume in a day from family so that I don't have to hear the whole "your body doesn't digest aspartame it just sits in your body and accumulates and it gave mice cancer" song and dance.
I've never seen The BF drink anything BUT water in two years (save for the occasional beer now and then). I mostly do H2O as well, but now and then - I dunno - I just need a Diet Pepsi to make the world a better place.
