Super Tuesday
Happy Super Tuesday everone.
So Will.I.Am from Black Eyed Peas has put out a video in support of Barack Obama, which is getting a lot of play.
On the one hand, I applaud the video and what he's (sorry, I refuse to type "Will.I.Am" one more time) doing to use his celebrity to raise awareness and endorse a candidate. And the video itself does a good job of highlighting some of the words from Barack's speech, which can be inspiring.
On the other hand, this is kinda lame, isn't it? If you're going to make a video filled with celebrities, shouldn't it have, well, better celebrities? I mean, c'mon -- the chick from Grey's Anatomy? That kid who was in that movie a few years ago with Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep? This is Barack Obama we're talking about; was nobody else available? At the very least, couldn't he have recruited the rest of the Black Eyed Peas?
And who is the video targeted towards? Young people? Do young people even know who Herbie Hancock is? Has anyone under the age of 30 ever listened to a John Legend song? (Although kudos for digging Kareem Abdul Jabar from obscurity.)
Plus, there isn't a product out there that Will.I.Am won't endorse. In the last three years, he's shilled for Apple, the Gap, Verizon, Honda, XM Satellite Radio and MSN. Seriously. I think his reputation as a celebrity with discerning good taste is starting to wear thin.
Yeah, I'm a dick.

yeah, but after reading your opinion, i couldn't agree more. what's wrong with me? usually i'm much more cynical than that. maybe i'm optimistic for some reason. or feverish and delusional.
but more importantly, today is paczki day...yum...happy day!! ;)
I thought this was lame until Kareem showed up! Awesome!
I had a similar thought thought when watching this, like "was Sean Penn too busy or something?"
I also thought it odd they got the hearing impaired woman from various 90's sitcoms...
Maybe I'm a sucker, but it gave me goosebumps. Then again, whenever stupid tv shows like Cold Case end with a montage of the characters involved set to music of the era in which the crime took place I always start crying. So...
it doesn't matter all that much. the most important thing is that everyone votes. personally I choose Hillary.
sure Obama says inspirational things, but does he do inspirational things? I'd love the country to come together and hold hands and sing kumbaya, but realistically. NO.
Hillary will get things done, and be an attack dog.
I support Obama for VP.
CLINTON/OBAMA '08
Hilary over Obama? No way! My little sister asked me the other day why Hilary keeps saying she is going to bring change. My little sister has never known a president without the last name Bush or Clinton. That's not change people!
And more important that paczki day OR super tuesday - today is MY birthday! GO ME!
Am I the only one who giggled after reading "getting a lot of play"? Probably. Oh well.

OK - I kinda loved the video and was thinking about blogging on it. I LIKED it.
Sue me.
(Is this why you don't crush on me like Sarah?)
Also took the quiz and turns out I should vote for Obama. He agrees with me the most.
Go figure.
Reckenroll OUT.
This election is already MAKING ME ANGRY. And I'm not even n'Mericanist.
BTW, Miley Cyrus for President!
will.i.am. shills pepsi over here too. he's a tool.
i'm not such a fan of the video but if it gets more people interested that can't be bad
I just think the speech is a bit pretentious and sad. Yes, I agree Obama is a inspiring speaker, but I can't remember the last time you were able to legislate "inspiration."
At least it's better than Obama Girl...
The most minor celebrity to me was the kid from 6 Feet Under. Horrible.
I hope he wins though.
(fingers and balls crossed. Starting to hurt, so I hope it wraps up soon.)
pesonally, celebrity endorsements dont mean a thing to me. I don't care who Streisand's voting for, what McSteamy's squeeze is driving, or Oprah's favourite things. But then, I've always had my own mind.
dop just beat me to it.
I think these celebrities turn the whole voting process in to a popularity/it's cool to vote for so and so event. I don't care if my vote isn't what all the kids are doing. I like to do something called gather facts and think for myself.
You last paragraph is right on.
