Like I Needed Anything Else to Worry About...

Today scientists are changing the Doomsday Clock for the first time in four years to reflect even more threats to our existence -- the threat of nuclear holocaust is too old school; the Doomsday scientists are now adding "the threat of global warming, the genetic engineering of diseases and other threats to global survival" to the mix that can nudge the minute hand closer to midnight, the symbolic apocalypse and end of the world.

Since 2002 the clock has been set to seven minutes to midnight,
but now it's 11:55 pm, "reflecting the most perilous period since Hiroshima and Nagasaki" according to a press release.

Fucking sweet. I'm pulling my 401k and Richard and I are moving to Tahiti. Anyone else?

This is the first I've ever heard of the Doomsday Clock.

Great...thanks a lot. One more thing to keep me awake at night.

Tahiti sounds perfect...or a little beach hut in Vanuatu! However in these locations, we leave ourselves open to natural disasters caused by this 'global warming' phenomenon (which 5'o'9ner so acutely blames Al Gore for!).

Oh well, at least we will leave this world with a tan!! LETS GOOOO!!!!

Wait, is that Ted Turner moving the hands on the clock? I always knew he ran the show.

I'm in! I always figured Tom Brady and I would honeymoon in Tahiti, but I guess I could spend the apocalypse there.

Tahiti suits me! Mind you with global warming we need to avoid Tetirora (Marlon Brando's island) as I suspect it will be under water! A nice Tahitian house boy would suit me too...

I am with Alannah on this one... I've never heard about this clock before. I know about the clock that counts down the months, days, hours, minutes, seconds until Bush leaves office... but not one that counts down to armageddon. Wowzers

Not to be a downer, but wouldn't another doomsday scenario (Global Warming) have those Pacific Islands disappearing? Eh, I'm thinking Northern Australia--Northern Territory or Queensland. Warm. Places to retreat from rising ocean. And it probably wasn't bombed with nukes.

I'll bring the umbrellas to put in our drinks and I'm already working on the perfect Apocolypse Now playlist...
