The Short Stick

Shorties get no respect.

This study points out that vertically-challenged people tend to make less money and get promoted less frequently than taller counterparts (this does not surprise me because taller people just tend to get noticed more than us shorties). The study says part of the reason is because taller people give off a perception of being more confident and self-assured. Whatever!

The study also goes on to say that growing up, short kids are more self-conscious about their height and because of this, tend to be shy and not participate in activities (like sports) that help them learn social and competitive skills. I call bullshit on this one - most short people I know are very self-assured and have excellent social skills because they were short growing up. And I know this is a stereotype, but in general, most short people I know are very interesting and fun to hang around with because we've learned to harness our intellect and (ahem) charm to compensate for our height.

Don't get me wrong - some of my favorite people are tall. But let's face it, short people rule!

I'm of average height for a woman (5'6) and I'm just sad that I can never be a model because you really need to be 5'7... [tear] oh and I like to eat actual food... and I'm 24. Crap! Tall people are ruining my life!

If I were four inches taller, I would have been an NFL quarterback. And you know what that means! That's right, I'd get tons of chicks.

I think Randy newman said it best:

Short People got no reason
To live
They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

My favorite line in that song is...
"They got little voices goin' peep peep peep."

I always wanted to be 5'10"... and that couple weeks of my life were great!

I love the folk short-of-stature...they bring me such happiness. Just like a Leprechaun!! (Or my [Cherry].) Shorter men are the hottest!
As with The Niner, I too have always wanted to be that little bit shorter..planes/trains/automobies are a bitch, as does standing out in a crowd, when all you pretty much wanna do is blend in, or stand near a wall!

I am 5'11" and in some instances, I feel short (of course, The BF is 6'2"). I've come to learn that those people with any deviation of physical perfection (shorter, taller, heavier, smaller, etc.) are more interesting people. It's the physically perfect people who have no personalities.

I think there is a lot of evidence out there for Napoleon complex- the little guys are much more loud and forceful so they get noticed. You see it in dogs (Chihuahua vs St. Bernard) and men (big guys are laid back, little guys are high strung). Or is that just my perspective from down here?

At least I can wear nice big high heels to compensate for my lack of stature...in fact surprising some people when they realise I am only 5'5 (or 159cm for those of us in metrics) in bare feet...

I find standing on a step above your favourite person to be helpful!

PS my puppy just farted and it was vile!

A disco holler for the shorties! Woot woot! I, for one, think that us midgets are the coolest in the game. We like the tallies, but also like having the ability to punch them in the gut and scurry away all quick like unscathed.

I like small men, but I couldn't eat a whole one.

Amen, preach on Brotha Cherry!

I'm 5'2 and I love it!

I've been told, short chicks are umm...tighter...so I do have that going for me! HA!

shortness and a great sense of humor do always seem to go together - which gives short guys a leg up, if you will over their sometimes dull, but taller, counterparts.

we all rule, of course.

i like being tall (6'5", y'all), but like the distinguished australian said, airplanes and public transport can be a bitch. thank god for United's economy plus section.

Of course, I wonder what I'll be screaming/feeling after getting off that 14 hour flight to Sydney in about a month. Probably "cut my knees off" ...
